TP has been chosen as one of the venues for the football preliminary rounds of the first ever Asian Youth Games (AYG). The Group B preliminary rounds, to be held in TP from June 20, will see four teams – Republic of Korea, People’s Republic of China, Myanmar and Pakistan – fight it out for a chance to play in the final rounds. TP will be the venue for one of the final rounds clashes on the day of the AYG opening ceremony on June 29.
AYG is a regional multi-sport event held every four years to complement the current Asian Games. The first AYG will be a test in preparation for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) which will also be hosted by Singapore next year. Young athletes aged 14 to 17 would be able to use the AYG as a benchmark for their preparation towards the YOG.
