Synopsis: What do you do with the cooking oil after you used it for cooking? Do you know that these waste cooking oil can be given a new life and converted into a renewable fuel, hence reducing the need for fossil fuels? Come and join us to learn and discover how waste cooking oil can be processed and converted into biodiesel and used as a fuel in vehicles, generators and boilers. You will also get the opportunity to visit our Chemical Pilot Plant where students in the Diploma in Chemical Engineering get to acquire hands-on learning about biodiesel production and waste-water treatment.

Synopsis: Dengue fever has long been a major public health concern in Singapore. There is currently no sustainable preventive approach against dengue fever and vaccination is potentially the most effective control strategy. This workshop, organised by the Diploma in Medical Biotechnology, will educate students with the basic knowledge of dengue fever and the dengue virus, the difficulty of producing an ideal vaccine for dengue, and the current progress of dengue vaccine development. A hands-on session will let students use an immunology method to determine the strength of immune responses to dengue in the body.

Synopsis: Have you ever wondered what’s inside our medicines that help us get well when we are sick? What are the various ingredients present inside our medicines and what are their respective functions? Come join us for this hands-on workshop where you will get the opportunity to learn how to prepare medicinal products such as cream that is safe for patients’ use. You will also learn how medications are correctly dispensed to patients to assure that patients use their medications safely and recover from their ailments. You will also get the opportunity to visit our laboratory facilities where students in the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science get to learn about pharmaceutical manufacturing and analysis.

where students attempt to design a classroom that requires zero energy!

Synopsis: Renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, and bioenergy have the potential to replace fossil fuels in future. The transition to renewable energy sources is driven by the need to reduce our carbon footprint and to limit global warming. Participants will have hands-on experience in using solar panels and/or fuel cells to generate electricity. Participant will also have a chance to make use of instruments to measure voltage and current, and understand the parameters affecting the electrical output from these energy sources.

Synopsis: A SMART nation can be built using a model-based process called Building Information Modelling (BIM). Learn how facility managers use a BIM tool to design and maintain a small facility.

Synopsis: You will learn the basics of genomics. Genes store a vast amount of information and gene activities can bring about illnesses and diseases. You will learn in this workshop how genetic information in cells can be decoded by studying the protein composition using biomedical equipment.

Synopsis: Cobots are robots designed to work safely alongside people. This workshop aims to introduce you to the world of Cobots. You will learn to program and operate these robots with a Teach Pendant (Tablet) and get to see the possibilities of using such robots at our TP Robotics and Automation Centre (RAC).

Synopsis: Students will have hands-on practice to assemble their own electronic circuit by soldering components onto a Printed Circuit Board. Students will learn to read circuit schematics, identify the different electronic components and acquire awareness of product development.

Synopsis: Architects use simulation extensively to study how attri- butes of a building, such as its orientation, building ma- terials used and even the usual wind direction, affect the energy consumption even before it is built. In this work- shop, students will experiment, perform simulations and learn to analyze the results.

Synopsis: This is an introductory workshop to micro-controllers. Students will learn to write simple programs for the Arduino Uno board to control motors, capture readings from sensors and move a simple robot.
