With the growing advancement in Singapore’s communication infrastructure, the industry demand for professionals in computer networking, server administration, computer systems administration, and network engineering is expected to increase. The Specialist Diploma in Network Management is a 12-month SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme targeted primarily at polytechnic graduates who want to deepen their skills in the area of network technology.

Graduates of this course can look forward to a role expansion in their workplace. They can also look forward to upgrading their knowledge and skills through further CET and executive programmes offered by local Institutes of Higher Learning, like UniSIM.
The Earn and Learn Programme will commence in April 2017.
Participants will undergo a 12-month structured training programme, including facilitated learning, e-learning, professional certification, and on-the-job training. Face to face lessons will be conducted once a week on a weekday from 9am to 6pm over two 15-week semesters within the 12-month period.

Advanced Internet Protocol (IP) Routing
This subject aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to design and implement scalable and reliable IP (Internet Protocol) networks. The students will acquire in-depth knowledge of IP routing protocols concepts such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), and their applications in an enterprise network.
Local Area Network (LAN) Switching
This subject covers the theoretical and practical approach to learning the technologies and protocols needed to design and implement an enterprise switched network, hierarchical network design model and how to select devices for each layer. Students will learn to design and implement a small to large scale enterprise switched network through the use of Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN), VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) and inter-VLAN routing.
Network and System Security
This subject aims to equip students with skills and knowledge to manage and protect an enterprise network to cater for scalability, functionality, security and reliability. Students will learn the various network and system maintenance tasks as well as best practices for network and system security such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, virtual private network, network access control (NAC) system and host system security and services.
Design and Implementation of Networks and Systems
This subject is designed to enable students to acquire, integrate and apply the knowledge and skills learned through structured on-the-job training. The students will participate and contribute to selected company-based projects. Emerging technologies such as network function virtualization, dynamic multipoint virtual private network and next generation firewalls could be covered based on the needs of the company. The deliverables of the project could include an innovative product, system or process; or an improvement to an existing product, system or process. This subject will be delivered via On-the-Job Training (OJT).

Fresh polytechnic graduates from technology or IT-related courses who are Singaporeans or Permanent Residents are eligible to apply. [Fresh graduates are defined as individuals who are hired by participating companies and officially commenced Earn & Learn Programme within 12 months of graduating. For male participants who need to complete National Service (NS), the 12-month period will start from their Operationally-Ready Date (ORD).]
Polytechnic graduates who have graduated more than 12 months but less than 5 years can still be considered for the course on a case-by-case basis but will not be eligible for any sign-on incentives.
