TP launches 1st structured training in acupressure

Students get hands-on training in a practical session.

TEMASEK Applied Science School launched a structured training on acupressure (Tui Na,推拿) in March. This is a first for Singapore where many acupressure practitioners only have a limited knowledge of body mechanics and understanding of the legal and ethical aspects of professional practices.

Having done evidence-based research projects in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) over the last four years, the School has gradually built up a solid reputation for technical competence in the field.

With greater acceptance of TCM by the general population, the School recognised that there is a growing local market for acupressure, which can be used for therapeutics, as well as to enhance health and well-being.

The part-time certificate and diploma courses in acupressure were conducted in collaboration with the Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
