Original dessert for MINDS

THREE students from TP’s Diploma in Business Process & Systems Engineering have developed a business plan for members of the Movement for Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) to sell an original frozen dessert developed by Temasek Applied Science School (see related story).

Called “Minds Freez”, the frozen dessert was officially launched by the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, at the Disability Awareness Public Education Carnival held in December 2005. It was later sold by members of MINDS at Tampines Mall in February 2006. The three students also helped to train the members of MINDS in serving the dessert and promoting it to the public. The development cost of the dessert was sponsored by Tuas Power.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr Aaron Ng, executive director of
MINDS, said: “We truly appreciate Tuas Power and Temasek Polytechnic’s effort in creating a new social enterprise for the intellectually disabled, helping them to achieve self-reliance.”
