Innovative projects on display at engineering show

The guest of honour, Mr Lim Boon Huat, Managing Director, Rohde & Schwarz Systems & Communications Asia Pte Ltd, checking out some of the projects on display during the opening day of the project show.

THE annual Engineering Project Show, held at the Temasek
Convention Centre from Jan 19 to 21 saw 94 innovative projects by final-year engineering students on
display. The projects, which included community-related
projects, as well as those carried out in collaboration with industry and institutions, were showcased to industry partners and secondary school students, as well as parents of TP students.

Here are two of the exciting projects:

Mass SMS System

With more than a million SMS messages sent daily in Singapore, lecturers find that they too should use this means of communication with their students. However, instead of having to manually key in hundreds of handphone numbers of students, this program allows them to tap on an Excel database containing the numbers, and
to send the message to all students instantly with just one click of the mouse.

Electronic Parking Reminder System

This project solves the problem which plagues most drivers – forgetting where they have parked their car. Upon request, this system will send an SMS indicating where the car has been parked through the use of an in-vehicle unit, which will in turn send the car ID to a central processing server where the information can be retrieved.
