Internship in the sky

The first batch of 13 AMS students doing their internship as cabin crew with Tiger Airways.

A TIE up with Tiger Airways has enabled Temasek Polytechnic’s Aviation Management & Services (AMS) students to do their internship as cabin crew on flights in the region – the first polytechnic students to do so.

The first batch of 13 students has completed a six-week training stint with the airline. They have serviced flights to and from China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia and the Philippines. In March, they commenced their five-month internship, during which they might fly several times a week.

These interns will also be offered jobs as cabin crew after they graduate from TP. Said Mr Matt Hobbs, head of communications at Tiger Airways: “They are assured that when they finish their internship and schooling, they can work for us full-time.”

Explaining how else the internship will benefit AMS students, Mr Paul Yap, course manager of the AMS programme, said: “During the internship, students will learn about in-flight operations, customer service and cabin safety. And during the last month of the internship, they will be rotated across the different Tiger Airways departments to get a unique overview of how an airline operates. This will give our AMS students unparalleled exposure and experience, and an advantage when seeking employment.”
