Students develop learning tools for counterparts

The “Virtual Marine Integrated Resort”, housed in Second Life, was among the 28 projects by final-year BIT students on display at the project show themed “Work IT, Play IT”.

FIVE final-year Business & Information Technology (BIT) students from TP have designed a “Virtual Marine Integrated Resort” in Second Life as a learning tool for students of TP’s Hospitality & Tourism Business and Leisure & Resort Management courses.

Encompassing hotel and clubhouse facilities, the virtual integrated resort is designed to make learning more innovative and fun, while helping the students understand different aspects of the tourism industry. Also helping to design a learning tool was another team which developed “Invasion”, a game designed to help the next batch of BIT students learn about data mining in a fun and engaging way.

These two were among the 28 final-year projects showcased at the recent annual MeetingYoungMinds@BIT 2009 project show. Themed “Work IT, Play IT”, the event saw more than 50 industry guests from 20 companies, staff, alumni, family and friends of the BIT students attending.
