NDP heritage microsite by IT staff, students

The microsite, which went live on Aug 9, can be viewed at: heritage.ndp.org.sg

In April this year, six staff and students from TP’s Internet
& Multimedia Development course embarked on a project
that would bring meaning to all Singaporeans. They were
commissioned to create a Heritage microsite to celebrate
National Day 2007 that would enable everyone to walk down
memory lane and remember past celebrations from 1966.

On why TP was selected, lecturer Jonathan Pillai said: “We were able to pitch to them an appealing concept and development idea for the project. The interactivity concept was also a very new and technically challenging way of developing an archive website in a compelling manner.”

The team worked with over 3,000 photographs of past National Day celebrations from Singapore Press Holding’s archives. The photos were
categorised with the assistance of another 50 students.

The final result is a microsite that is highly interactive, enabling viewers to select pictures by scrolling up and down the timeline bar or by selecting from a list of themes.
