New institute to level up Singapore's security industry

A new Security Industry Institute (SII) that serves as a continuing education and training institution for the security industry has been set up recently.

The SII is a joint effort between the Workforce Development Authority and TP. It aims to level up and improve the image of the security industry through the provision of certified curriculum development, training and assessment, based on TP’s strong reputation as a
provider of quality education. The Institute began offering three levels of Security Work Skills Qualification (WSQ) courses from September. It also conducts customised training programmes for organisations.

In view of the increasing threat of terrorism throughout the world, the role of the security industry has become more important than ever before, said director of SII, Mr Jeffrey Seah. He added: “Singapore has an excellent reputation as a safe and secure place to do business, experience a
quality education and enjoy a tropical holiday. All of these cannot happen if not for a vigilant security force which needs constant reinventing and upgrading to keep abreast of new changes and developments.”
