TP's ideas in action!

The prototype of the rubbish compressor.

THREE projects by TP’s engineering students have won seed funding under the Citigroup Ideas in Action programme.

One of the projects is an environment-friendly rubbish bin which is able to sense when the bin is full, and activate a compressor which will push the rubbish down, thereby creating more space at the top for additional rubbish. It was awarded $2,000.

Team leader Ng Meng Soon described how they came up with the idea: “I have often noticed how the rubbish from bins spills out onto the ground, which is both unsightly and unhygienic. I had this idea to develop a bin with a compressor, and I am glad that this funding will help me make my idea a reality.”

The other two projects which were awarded funding were the “Hand Exerciser” (awarded $1,000) and the “Key Reminder” (awarded $500).

The Citigroup Ideas in Action, a project sponsored by Citibank in collaboration with Learning Society and the Ministry of Education, encourages students to develop their creative and entrepreneurial ideas by providing seed funding.
