Upgrading the Temasek Animal Facility

The Animal Facility allows staff to inject more realism into the teaching of aquatic and animal diseases, animal health monitoring and evaluation, animal management and use, as well as surgical and anaesthetic procedures on companion animals.

THE Temasek Applied Science School is on the path to becoming a leading training provider on animal care and use. As part of its efforts to improve the teaching of its Veterinary Science Option and meet the National Advisory Committee for Laboratory Animal Research (NACLAR)’s requirements, the School’s animal facility was completely upgraded in August. From a one-room unit for holding animals for teaching purposes, it is now a 370 sq meter facility comprising both Aquaculture and Laboratory Animal Workstations.
With the new facility, staff will be able to inject more realism into their teaching and carry out research with greater ease. It will also enable the School to jointly conduct more training courses as TP has been identified as one of the three training providers under NACLAR Training Guidelines for responsible animal care and use for scientific purposes. In the pipeline are training courses for the Pet Enterprises Traders Association of Singapore and pet shop owners.
