Experiencing design in China

students

The design students were warmly welcomed by their Chinese counterparts.

LAST year, Temasek Design School sent a number of its students and staff to the cold snowy climate of Changchun, China, to absorb a rich cultural experience firsthand.

Following that successful first effort, 43 design students and two lecturers headed for Jilin College of the Arts, Changchun in mid-October this year. From the cross-cultural experience and living through the unfamiliar icy cold climatic conditions, it was hoped that the students would gain a better understanding of design work in temperate latitudes.

For the three weeks, the students lived and learned with their Chinese counterparts. Coming from all five disciplines of Temasek Design School, they attended classes, slept in dorms, and went on field trips to well-known landmarks in Changchun and Shanghai. In their free time, they browsed markets, sampled the local cuisine, interacted with their new-found classmates and generally immersed themselves in the local way of life.
