TP launches Humanities & Social Sciences School

The new School positions TP as a comprehensive polytechnic offering courses beyond those traditionally associated with polytechnics.

On Oct 1, TP launched its sixth School — the Temasek Humanities & Social Sciences School (HSS). This move positions TP as a comprehensive polytechnic offering courses not just in traditional fields such as business and engineering, but also in humanities and social sciences. The School will offer its first course in Psychology Studies from April 2008.

Introducing the humanities and social sciences at TP will open up new pathways for O-level students. It will also create new synergies within TP as HSS works with the other five schools of Applied Science, Business, Design, Engineering and Informatics & IT to bring learning beyond technology and the hard sciences.

At the same time, the Temasek Information Technology School was renamed the Temasek Informatics & IT School. This change in name reflects the School embracing the Informatics paradigm at focusing on using the knowledge of IT and domain areas like financial services, cyber security and digital media to create solutions that add value and improve lives. The inclusion of the term “Informatics” in the school name thus opens up avenues for courses in more diverse and specialised areas, thereby giving the School that differentiating edge to groom IT professionals of the future.
