In September 2007, 420 Temasek Polytechnic students got soaked in the early morning rain and had their feet stuck in the beach mud. Yet smiling faces were beaming all around as these volunteer marshals’ only goal was to make Run for Hope 2007 (previously known as the Terry Fox Run) a great success.
And indeed it was. The event, touted as the “largest and longest-running event for cancer research in Singapore”, attracted more than 7,000 sign-ups and raised about $300,000 for the Singapore Cancer Society.
This year, TP was the only external institution to send student volunteer marshals for the event. Mrs Goh-Choi Hoi San, course manager of the Hospitality & Tourism Management course said: “TP, in particular, the Division of Hospitality & Tourism Management, has worked tirelessly with the organisers of this annual event for the past nine years. This year is particularly amazing as we have the highest record of student volunteers ever.” |
