The TP island on Second Life.

Temasek Informatics & IT School (IIT School) began exploring the use of Second Life (SL) to conduct lessons to engage students in November 2006. Since then it has created the TP virtual island which was showcased at an international conference recently.
The TP island was presented by lecturer Jet Lim at the conference themed “Let’s Play” held in Vancouver, Canada. Conference participants were wowed by the magnitude and completeness of the virtual teaching facilities that are available on the island.
Mr Lim shared IIT’s experience of teaching using SL in a paper which he had prepared together with another IIT lecturer, Dr Nalaka Edirisinghe. The paper was first presented at a special workshop
that brought together university professors, lecturers and researchers from all over the world to collaborate and discuss diverse topics related to SL.
Mr Lim shared that the conference provided an excellent opportunity for networking and learning from other researchers and educators. He also learned about the next phase of development and improvements planned for SL. This will help keep TP on track towards developing its digital campus and maintain its ability to use cutting-edge technology to deliver relevant curricula to its students. |
