TP offers specialist course in Gerontological Design
CONSIDER these facts — between 2008 and 2030,
Singapore will witness the single largest shift in
our population age profile. By 2030, one-fifth of Singaporeans will be 65 years or older. These seniors
will also be healthier, richer and better educated.

|
According to the US Census Bureau, in 2002, 7% of the world’s
population was aged 65 and above. By 2050, this proportion
could increase to 17% of the population. This is a huge market
with significant business potential. |
To tap into the growing silver market, designers with
in-depth understanding of issues and needs pertaining
to the ageing population, coupled with knowledge of gerontological design processes will be in strong demand.
Developed specially for design practitioners, the one-year
Specialist Diploma in Gerontological Design
(SDGD) course draws from the expertise of faculty
at the Temasek Design School and the Temasek Humanities & Social Sciences School. SDGD is
offered by the Professional Development Centre at
Temasek Polytechnic.
The industry is already showing its support for this
course with the Ministry of Community Development,
Youth and Sports, Philips, the Centre for the 3rd Age,
and OSIM, amongst others, giving the programme
their full endorsement. |
