A PROJECT by eight students from TPs Diploma
in Info-Communications will provide a new means for
doctors and patients in hospitals to communicate with
each other.
Developed in collaboration with Philips Electronics
Singapore Pte Ltd, the project called Healthcare
Anywhere comprises a bedside LCD monitor called
the Bedside Companion, and a hand-held device
known as the Mobile Physician.
The Mobile Physician, which is essentially a 3G PDA
phone, allows the doctor to remotely communicate with
the patient via video conferencing, and to explain the
latters medical condition with the aid of the
patients imaging data that will be flashed on
the bedside monitor. The Bedside Companion
also serves as the patients one-stop infotainment
centre, allowing him to watch TV and video on demand,
and surf the web.
The project is currently a permanent exhibit at the
InnoHub, Philips inspirational showcase
of innovative home, office and healthcare concepts.
More of such collaborative projects between TP and
Philips Electronics will be carried out under a Memorandum
of Understanding signed by the two parties on July 21.
