Qualifications

Admission ExercisesWho can apply?
Direct Polytechnic Admissions Exercise (DPA)
  • Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents (SC/PR) who have registered to sit for the O Level examinations in the year of the DPA admission exercise.
  • Foreign students enrolled in government, government-aided and Independent Schools during the year of the application, and who have registered to sit for the O-level examinations in the year of the DPA admission exercise.
Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE)
  • Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents (SC/PR) with valid GCE O Level examination results. However, any SC/PR who was previously admitted to a Junior College, Millennium Institute, Polytechnic are not eligible to apply for an institution in the same category through the JAE.
  • Foreign students studying in a government school, government-aided school or Independent School in Singapore with valid 2011 Singapore-Cambridge GCE O Level examination results.
  • Holders of 2011 or earlier Singapore-Cambridge GCE A Level seeking admission to a 3-year full-time polytechnic course may also apply.
JAE Appeal
  • JAE applicants who wish to appeal for a transfer to a course in a polytechnic may submit an online appeal at the Joint Polytechnic JAE Appeal website. The JAE Appeal posting will be released through the same website.
Joint Polytechnic Special Admissions Exercise (JPSAE)
  • Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents (SC/PR) who sat for the 2011 GCE O Level examinations.
  • Foreign students with 2011 GCE O Level results who had studied in a government school, government-aided school or independent school in Singapore.
  • Applicants demonstrating the attributes/ strong passion to succeed in the industry of the chosen course(s) or possessing outstanding talents/ achievements in co-curricular activities in Sports, Performing Arts, Leadership, Community Service or Entrepreneurship.
Joint Polytechnic Admissions Exercise (JPAE)
  • Holders of relevant ITE certificates
  • Final semester graduating full-time ITE students
Direct Admissions Exercise (DAE) - April Intake
  • Holders of GCE O Levels who missed the English Language requirement by one grade but have obtained distinctions in both Mathematics and relevant subjects.
  • Holders of GCE O/ A Levels who are not eligible to apply for courses under the JAE.
  • Former/ current polytechnic students seeking re-admission to the polytechnic, excluding holders of foreign qualifications.
  • Applicants from the Singapore Integrated Programme / School of the Arts (SOTA) who :
    1. have completed Year 4
    2. have graduated with GCE A Level / International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents (SC/PR) with valid IGCSE examination results.
  • Holders of foreign qualifications.
Direct Admissions Exercise (DAE) - October Intake
  • Holders of GCE O/ A Levels
  • Former/ current polytechnic students seeking re-admission to the polytechnic, excluding holders of foreign qualifications.
  • Holders of relevant ITE certificates
  • Applicants from the Singapore Integrated Programme / School of the Arts (SOTA) who :
    1. have completed Year 4
    2. have graduated with GCE A Level/ International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents (SC/PR) with valid IGCSE examination results.
  • Holders of foreign qualifications

Medical ConditionsRequirementsCourse
Medical fitnessApplicants offered admission are required to undergo a pre-enrolment medical examination. Applicants must be certified mentally and physically fit by a medical practitioner registered with the Singapore Medical Council to pursue their course of study at the point of enrolment and before course commencement. Those who are unable to complete or fulfill the requirements of the pre-enrolment medical examination will be deemed as unfit to pursue the course of study. Such students, if enrolled, will be advised to withdraw.Applied to all courses
Colour appreciation deficiencyApplicants applying for these courses must ensure that they do not suffer from colour appreciation deficiency. Those who do not satisfy this requirement may not be accepted into the course of study.

Colour appreciation deficiency (partial)Applicants applying for these courses must ensure that they do not suffer from complete colour appreciation deficiency. Applicants with partial colour appreciation deficiency may apply. Those who do not satisfy this requirement may not be accepted into the course of study.

Epilepsy or hearing impairmentFor safety reasons, applicants applying for these courses must ensure that they do not suffer from medical conditions such as epilepsy or hearing impairment.

Physical disabilities

Applicants offered a place in Diploma in Early Childhood Studies must also be free from physical disabilities. Whilst not comprehensive, the following medical conditions may lead to non-acceptance into the course:

  • Active tuberculosis
  • Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)/ Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
  • HBsAg positive/ Hepatitis B Carrier
  • Legal Blindness
  • Mobility restricted
  • Physical dependence upon mobility equipment
  • Profound deafness
  • Psychiatric condition
  • Uncontrolled asthma
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Uncontrolled epilepsy
  • Uncontrolled hypertension
  • Early Childhood Studies
