  1. What type of services do you provide?

On further education, we provide general information and help students who need guidance in the university search and application process. Our Resource Centre contains handbooks, catalogues, test preparatory software and guidebooks on various study local and overseas study. If you need more comprehensive counselling, you may have to approach the official education centres/ representative offices for assistance.

  2. How do I know if my degree is recognised in Singapore?

To date, there is no single official body in Singapore that is responsible for the recognition of overseas institutions and the courses that they offer (including distance degree programmes). If you intend to pursue a professional degree (accountancy, architecture, dentistry, engineering, land surveying, medicine, law, nursing, pharmacy, veterinary science etc) and wish to seek local professional registration, do check with the respective professional bodies in Singapore on recognition and accreditation of the degree programme.

  3. Can you provide a list of "popular" universities that most employers prefer?

Popularity depends on individual preference and perceptions. It is subjective. Please check with prospective employers for their preferences.

  4. I have no clue as to how to go about choosing a university. Do you have any advice for me?

When choosing a university, it is important that you consider these factors:
    • Course
    • Institutions
    • Cost
    • Accreditation/Professional recognition
    • Admission requirements
    • Location, environment & personal factors

  5. Will I get some exemptions for the courses that I have done at TP? If yes, how much?

It depends. TP has articulation agreements with many universities in various countries. The amount of exemptions you'll get depends on your grades, the relevance of the diploma to degree courses and the institution that you are applying to.

  6. Where can I get the advanced standing list?

Our advanced standing list is not exhaustive. There are many universities that are not on the list but would probably provide some exemptions to our students on a case-by-case basis. When in doubt, send the university admissions officer your transcript and course descriptions for evaluation.

  7. Can you recommend universities?
No. We strive to provide impartial advice to students. As such we do not recommend one university over another.

  8. How reliable are the commercial ranking guides?

The rankings are usually done based on a set of criteria and they differ from one to another. If you must use any of these ranking guides, be sure to check if their ranking criteria match yours.

  9. How much will it cost to study abroad?

It depends on where and what you intend to study. The information given below is just a guide:

    Australia
Tuition (1 academic year): A$10,000 -A$17,000 (excluding medicine and dentistry courses)
    Living expenses: A$7,200 - A$13,500

    UK
Tuition (1 academic year): £6,500 - £10,800 (excluding medicine and dentistry courses)
Living Expenses: £4,850 - £7,200 (depends on location)

    USA
    Tuition (1 academic year): US$5,000 - US$26,000

  10. I have financial constraints, where can I apply for scholarships to study overseas?

From time to time, some universities do send information on their scholarships to this office. This, however, is quite limited. There are some organisations (government bodies, foundations, international aid and development agencies and, private companies) that offer scholarships for international study. It is up to individuals to find all possible funding sources. Many universities do offer their own scholarships. However, the scholarships available for international students are limited and competition is intense. Students are encouraged to check the universities' websites and the official education centres for available scholarships.

  11. I have a specialised diploma (e.g. Clean Building & Sustainability). How do I choose an undergraduate programme that is relevant to what I have studied?

The course manager/academic adviser in your school should be able to guide you in identifying your academic pathway. The Diploma to Degree Pathfinder will also be a useful guide.

  12. Where can I obtain my TP transcripts and course descriptions?

You can obtain your transcripts from TP's One-Stop Service Centre. For course descriptions, approach the course manager/academic adviser in your school.
