SIP for Temasek Informatics & IT School
Temasek Informatics & IT School provides students with a strong foundation in IT as well as knowledge of domain areas such as financial services, digital media and cyber security which enable them to create solutions that improve business processes. We also place priority on nurturing IT Professionals who are able to communicate effectively and work in a team so that they acquire the confidence to engage and interact with diverse people in a global economy.
Aim
The Student Internship Programme enables students to gain valuable work experience in the relevant industries.
Duration
The length of the internship ranges from 15 weeks to 35 weeks.
Duties
We strongly encourage employers to give our students real jobs and responsibilities within their organisations. Participating companies are required to submit a training schedule, describing the duties of the SIP student(s).
Diploma in Information Technology
This course provides graduates with a strong foundation to develop robust internet and intranet application systems for business, industry and public organisations. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge of business process and technical skills to harness the power of information and internet technologies to develop information systems for the business operations of organisations. They will be able to specify, design, implement, test and maintain effective intranet and internet based information systems for these organisations. As these information systems are established for specific business purposes, graduates are able to understand the way organisations are structured and how these systems fulfill business information needs.
They are required to attend a common core program of studies in the fundamentals required of IT software professionals. Information systems and multimedia applications in organisations, principles of software development, basic architecture of computer and network systems, computing mathematics and communication skills are common core areas of study. In addition, the ability to develop application systems is a core competence developed during the course of study.
Diploma in Mobile & Wireless Computing
The Diploma in Mobile and Wireless Computing is designed to produce IT professionals with the knowledge of mobile and wireless technologies to support the demands of the Infocomm industries. The course is structured into five components: foundation studies, core areas, language and communication, internship, and electives. The study of core areas provides students with in-depth knowledge and skills to be wireless & mobile computing Infocomm professionals who are competent and capable of developing efficient and reliable wireless and mobile commerce services and operations. At the same time it also provides students with a good understanding of the mobile and wireless network systems, security issues and the requirements to support wireless networking and infrastructure operations, administration, and research. The three core areas of focus are wireless and mobile network systems and infrastructures, wireless services and support, and mobile commerce systems.
Students in their final stage of study, may choose to do either a research or non-research major project. For non-research projects, students are required to develop a realistic mobile application or system. Research projects provide opportunities for students to acquire the relevant research knowledge and skills. This will prepare them to assist and conduct research work in the industries and at institution of higher learning.
Diploma in Financial Business Informatics
In this course, students will learn how banks and financial institutions are structured and how they operate in the global financial markets. It combines training in business processes, systems and management with IT. In this way, students have the chance to be effective in two sectors - the high growth financial services and the IT industries.
Students can choose two possible options of study: Finance or Banking. The Finance Option trains students on systems, processes and management of settlement and credit risks of investment products like foreign exchange and money market instruments, securities and derivatives. The Banking Option focuses on systems and processes of retail and corporate banking in relation to credit cards, loans and trade financing.
Diploma in Cyber & Digital Security
This course is for people who want to protect the critical information assets of individuals and enterprises and want to earn respect as IT security professionals in the expanding security industry. Students will receive a sound education on IT fundamentals to develop critical thinking, communication and problem-solving skills in software and network systems.
Students will learn how to identify and detect the abuse and misuse of computers, design counter measures against criminal intrusion, perform penetration testing and ethical hacking to effectively secure systems for businesses. If any system is compromised, students will learn how to perform computer forensic investigations and respond to the incident. Combining security and business skills, students will learn how to audit and design security policies, apply the legal aspects of IT, and make systems more secure by using biometric technologies such as fingerprint and iris scans.
Diploma in Game & Entertainment Technology
This course will teach students the skills to create and design game through game patterns, game architecture and game designs.
Students will be equipped with digital content creation skills like interface design, human computer interaction, 2D/3D character animation, level design and game scripting. You will also learn software engineering and programming concepts such as object-oriented programming and problem solving, artificial intelligence, 3D graphics and game algorithms.
Diploma in Interactive Media Informatics
Media is no longer static, it is interactive and exciting. From web applications, 3D animations, videos, digital graphics interfaces to immersive 3D, these technologies are rapidly changing the landscape of the media industry. Students will be trained in design and IT fundamentals so that they can create vibrant and practical applications for people and organisations. They will have strong technical and design foundation required for the info-communications and digital media industries.
