Course Overview

This subject covers technologies used in cloud computing and the implementation of cloud-based services, such as infrastructure-as-a-service (IAAS). Other topics include the assessment of the security risks that arise from using cloud computing and the identification of controls used to mitigate security risks. 

 

 

Objectives

 

This subject aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to build a basic set of IT infrastructure using cloud computing technology. It also aims to equip students with the skills to identify security risks arising from using this technology and the means to mitigate these risks.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Modes of Assessment

 

100% coursework

 

1. Case Study

The case study is used to assess students’ application of their knowledge in context-specific scenarios. The students will work in small groups to complete their case study. The case study will focus on the cloud computing concepts and implementation, and security risks. Students will be expected to present their findings on cloud computing and produce a report about security risks.

 

2. Assignment

The assignment is used to assess students’ understanding of cloud computing and security concepts, and their ability to apply what they have learnt to build a secure private cloud. 

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Diploma in Infocomm and Digital Media (ICT Systems, Services & Support).
