Course Overview

This course provides students with fundamental knowledge of the applied mechanics of fluids under incompressible viscous flow conditions. It covers fluid properties, fluid statics, fluid in motion, governing equations, dimensional analysis, viscous flow through the duct, minor losses, multiple-pipe system, drag and lifts, and compressible flow.

Objectives

Students will be able to:

  • Explain the fundamental concepts involved in fluid flow so that they are equipped with foundation knowledge of the aerodynamics of an aircraft;
  • Apply fluid flow concepts to the turbine engine and system of an aircraft; and
  • Explain model studies and correlate the results of experimental research.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.
