Course Overview

This course emphasizes the importance of method validation and the key aspects of method selection, usage of laboratory-developed methods and non-standard methods. The course also covers the parameters used for the determination of the performance of a method.

 

 

Objectives

 

The subject aims to equip students with knowledge and skills to:

  • explain fundamental principles of analytical method validation;
  • outline key performance characteristics of analytical methods;
  • design a basic analytical method validation study.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Modes of Assessment

 

  • Assignments (Theory/Project/Practical) – assess student’s understanding of key concepts covered in lectures, their ability to solve the application questions and their ability to apply concepts to questions on in various topics.
  • Tests/Quizzes – measure students’ understanding of key concepts and application of concepts learnt for each topic.
  • Class participation – assess student’s attitudes towards learning in terms of active participation in discussions.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Specialist Diploma in Laboratory Management and Instrumentation
