37 Full-time Diploma Courses
6 Academic Schools
• Over 15,000 Full-time students
Over 30 part-time courses

The TP family is a caring one, held together by the poly-wide system known as the Campus Care Network where lecturers and students provide support for each others' needs. Many graduates still keep in contact with the close friends they have made during their years here.

Students have access to many state-of-the-art facilities, from computer labs and media studios to our sports complex and Olympic-sized swimming pool. These facilities augment the education our students receive to ensure they graduate as well-rounded, industry-ready professionals.

How It All Began

In a speech he made in June 1989, Dr Tony Tan (then the Minister for Education) praised polytechnic education and announced that a third polytechnic "was being seriously considered".

That was us.

In July 1990, Temasek Polytechnic was established with an initial enrolment of 735 students. While our actual campus was being built, TP was granted use of Baharuddin Vocational Institute's (BVI) premises at Stirling Road and the vacated premises of Raffles Institution at Grange Road.

Our Early Years

TP's first four diploma courses were in graphic design, product design, interior design and business.

The design courses were programmes originally conducted at BVI a reputable forerunner in design education in Singapore. The Diploma in Business was created from scratch, together with a new School of Business in TP.

By our second year, we introduced new courses in electronics, information technology, mechatronics, tourism management and logistics & operations management.

Within five years, TP grew rapidly and acquired three more campuses at Kim Seng, Bukit Merah and Portsdown Road for a total of five satellite campuses. Our number of first-choice applicants increased from 735 in 1990 to 5,443 in 1995.

Our Own Home At Last

Finally in September 1995, we moved to our permanent and current location in Tampines - a state-of-the-art 30-hectare campus set beside Bedok Reservoir.

For the first time, over 6,500 staff and students were brought together under one roof.

The polytechnic continued to grow and as of 2013, our student population stands at over 15,000 and staff population at nearly 1,700. TP now offers 46 diploma courses across six schools.

Towards The Future

In 2012, we undertook a large-scale campus development project to expand our capacity and cater to the needs of a growing TP community.

We have since built an entirely new South Wing, drastically upgraded our Auditorium Foyer and entrance and many more improvements, with others upgrades still being made.

For more than 25 years, TP has managed to meet both the changing needs in Singapore's industries as well as the interests of students. We stand today as a forerunner in technical education in Singapore.
