Spreading Festive Joy Through Fine Dining

…. that’s what 20 of our students from the Diploma in Culinary & Catering Management (CCM) from The School of Business did last Saturday for 25 senior citizens from Bo Tien Welfare Services.

Jointly organised by Temasek Polytechnic, Bo Tien Welfare Services and Taman Jurong Malay Activity Executive Club (MAEC), the 3-course meal not only allowed the residents to enjoy the fine dining experience, it also enabled our CCM students to demonstrate their culinary finesse and service skills for charity. Mrs Tharman Shanmugaratnam, chairman of The Singapore Art Museum, graced the occasion and greeted each senior citizen warmly. During lunch, the senior citizens were entertained by folks from Taman Jurong MAEC with fantastic vocals by Faliq who sang with soul. The sporty aerobic ladies demonstrated cool steps to exercise to, and they really looked like they were having lots of fun, too!

Of course, the food was goooooood – we started with a cream of sweet corn soup. You could see the soup disappearing FAST. Next up was the pan-seared cod fillet served with pumpkin puree and spinach. That one was excellent, too – the senior citizens were actually wolfing this down! The lunch ended with an excellent dessert of mango pudding.

Mrs Shanmugaratnam gave each of our student volunteers a certificate of participation as a token of appreciation for their hard work. One of our CCM student volunteers, Adam, hoped the senior citizens enjoyed their early start to the Lunar New Year celebrations with this fine dining experience.

I know they did – the clean bowls/plates told me as much!
