Have you ever wondered about a world beyond the naked eye? About the small molecules in your body that just seems to know what to do and when to do it? I know I often do and that was how I knew I wanted to join Temasek Polytechnic’s Biotechology course. I, Claire Neo, have been always curious about the complex interactions occurring in various living organisms and Biotechnology has indeed satisfied this curiosity. The course has equipped me with a wide range of knowledge from the tiny microorganisms to the flora and fauna, giving me a clearer idea of which aspect of biology I would like to specialise in, in the future.
In my final year at Temasek Polytechnic, I was given the opportunity to intern at A*STAR and was involved in the characterisation of monoclonal antibodies specific for potential cancer biomarkers. It was definitely an eye opening experience to work in a research institute, handle real research projects and interact with the researchers. Last but not least, it was truly wonderful to be able to use the knowledge that I’ve learnt to contribute to cancer research and improve the lives of others.
