Jordan Ang with his design and original prototype at the Design Show 2017
To have a design prototype and concept approved and adopted by industry is every design student’s dream.
For Product & Industrial Design graduate Jordan Ang, this has now become reality.
In June, the Land Transport Authority launched a trial run of its stroller restraint system for public buses using Jordan’s concept and idea.
The LTA had worked with other institutions but eventually selected Jordan’s idea, a simple wall-mounted belt system that would help parents keep their prams open while on public buses. In the past, parents would have to fold their prams and strollers before boarding the buses, making it inconvenient and sometimes challenging to do so while managing their young children.
With Jordan’s design, parents can now board buses with their open strollers. In this way, travel on buses will become much smoother for parents using prams and strollers.
The system was designed by Jordan as part of his recent final-year project earlier this year. LTA later worked with ST Kinetic to prototype the concept. The trial will run on SBS Transit bus number 69, plying between Tampines and Bedok.
