Interior Architecture & Design student
Finalist, IKEA Singapore Young Designer Award
What do you love most about design?
I love the satisfaction of the creative process. I’m always excited to create something new because each piece is a unique one of a kind work. With the IKEA Singapore Young Designer Award, it was a thrill to see my work displayed at National Design Centre.
What do you love most about your work?
I love putting in my own personal style and thinking of different solutions to approach a problem. Working in the studios here also allows me to work closely with my classmates and friends. We help each other out a lot. If there’s one thing I learned, it is the importance of being helpful to everyone. No matter how good you are in design, it is important to learn how to work with people.
Why did you choose to do design as a course?
I like hands-on work; making things, drawing and penning down my thoughts and ideas. I chose design because of it offers so much room for me to create something unique.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I’d like to work as an interior designer and product designer, someone who can create multi-functional and aesthetically pleasing work that help make life better. Hopefully one day I would like to save enough to start up a studio in the product design field.
Do you have a Design mentor?
Yes, he is the founder of Plane And Bevel, a studio working with custom design, fabrication and installation using techniques of woodworking and metalworking. I look up to him because he’s doing something quite similar to what I hope to do in the future. One day I’d like to make high quality products that are not only usable and aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable. I’ve been learning woodworking from him and he has been very helpful, giving me advice on business start-up etc.
