TP provides the international student with a caring environment, an excellent academic experience, a comprehensive range of state-of-the-art facilities, an opportunity to share diverse ethnic cultural practices, and hands-on experience through projects and the Student Internship Programme.
Our International Students Office coordinates the recruitment of international students and organises immersion and cultural programmes to facilitate your smooth transition to life in Singapore and at TP.
In Mar 2007, TP was named the Best Host for International Students Studying in Singapore at the inaugural Singapore Education Awards organised by the Singapore Tourism Board.
Most international students choose to stay near the campus in Tampines, Bedok, Simei or Pasir Ris. This is to minimise the travelling time needed to and fro the campus and home. You may choose to rent a room from a local family. Alternatively, you may want to share an apartment with other students. Students are expected to pay at least one month advance rent and one month deposit.
Where possible, you should make arrangements for your accommodation before you arrive in Singapore. If you need someone to pick you up from the airport, please email or fax to International Students Office, International Relations & Industry Service Department at firstname.lastname@example.org or (65) 6780 5970.
The International Students Office organises a special Immersion Programme to introduce freshmen to campus life and the community for a smooth transition in Singapore and Temasek Polytechnic. Some activities include a briefing to freshmen, campus and community orientation, social and cultural programmes, Freshmen Orientation and School Orientation.
Temasek Polytechnic International Students
Temasek Polytechnic International Students (TPIS) is a student interest group under the International Students Office. It provides a platform for social and cross-cultural experiences for international and local students. The student management committee organises regular activities and events to promote cross-cultural awareness and friendship.
There will be occasions for you to share with us your rich cultural background through food, song and dance, fashion and exhibitions featuring your unique culture. You are encouraged to bring along a set of national or ethnic costume for special occasions such as the International Cultural Nite and festive celebrations.
International students may attempt to supplement your finances through part-time work. However, this should not be relied upon as the only source of finance. Part-time work must be done outside of school hours and co-curricula activities, and it must not affect your academic performance. Students are advised not to engage in controversial activities that are detrimental to the interest of Singapore and Temasek Polytechnic.
Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) had indicated that "Full time undergraduates of Polytechnics and Universities are allowed to work part-time of up to 16 hours per week during school term and work full time during vacation as the Ministry of Manpower has exempted them from applying for work permits. There is no necessity to obtain any permission from the Student's Liaison/Affairs Office of their respective Polytechnics and Universities."
