The Centre for Applied Psychology (CAP) serves as a learning enterprise in which students from the Diploma in Psychology Studies (PSY) are trained in various aspects of managing applied psychological research and translational projects through exposure to real-world industrial projects. CAP also serves as a platform in which lecturers from CAP and PSY work closely with industry partners, either by providing expertise consultation or through close collaboration in applied psychological research or translational projects.
CAP aims to bridge the gap between theoretical research and field practice by providing evidence-based solutions to real-world problems. CAP adopts an interdisciplinary approach by providing psychological knowledge and perspective through collaboration with other Schools and departments in Temasek Polytechnic, and various other industry partners across different disciplines.
To be a centre recognised for its interdisciplinary applied research and translational projects in the field of psychology.
CAP focuses on the following areas in its applications to real-world problems
Using CAP as a research facility, the Learning Enterprise (LE) provides students of the Diploma in Psychology Studies (PSY) with hands-on exposure and training in administrative, logistical, and operational skills related to the management of research projects.
The LE is embedded within the curriculum for Year 2 PSY students as part of their coursework and training in applied behavioral and psychological sciences research. While being supervised by lecturers from PSY, the day-to-day operations of the enterprise are managed by student-led teams.
Within the LE, there are 3 different structural teams that oversee various operations of the facility. All students are involved in various roles and responsibilities in these teams.
- Data Coordination Team
The team is in charge of data collection for commissioned research projects (internal and external industry collaborations). They are also involved in the management of data archival.
- Lab & Equipment Team
The team manages the day-to-day operations of the centre. They work along with the research teams who use CAP for data collection, to ensure that the entire facility and equipment are maintained and operationally prepared for the teams. They also oversee the up-keeping of the centre’s physical space.
- Research Participant Coordination Team
The team is responsible for overseeing the participant recruitment system, and all the various administrative processes associated with the assignment and management of participants to various research projects.
