A YEAR OF ACHIEVEMENTS

In 2024, TP was honoured with two prestigious national accolades!

We were named a Company of Good – 3 Hearts by the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre, placing TP among Singapore’s top organisations recognised for our contributions across the five key impact areas of people, society, governance, environment, and economic.

TP also received the People’s Association Community Spirit (Excellence) Award for the second year running. This recognition celebrates TP’s sustained collaboration with the North East Community Development Council to uplift communities through our meaningful corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts such as Project Refresh, Gift of Love, and Shaping Hearts.

For the eighth consecutive time since 2017, TP’s School of Design claimed the Institution of the Year title at the Crowbar Awards, the region's premier design and advertising competition for emerging talent. This achievement reaffirms the School's position as Singapore's leading provider of design education.

WorldSkills Lyon 2024 was a landmark moment for TP, with 10 talented students competing in eight skill areas. This is the highest number of skill areas TP has qualified for since first joining WorldSkills international competitions.

TP’s culinary excellence was on fire at two international competitions in 2024!

At the Battle of the Chefs 2024, a signature culinary competition organised by the Penang Chefs Association, TP’s Diploma in Food, Nutrition & Culinary Science students and future culinary stars Seck Hui En Victoria (pictured left) and Lin Junhong Adrian (pictured right) impressed the judges with their finesse and flair for the culinary arts. Adrian earned Gold in the duck category and Silver for seafood, while Victoria clinched Gold for seafood and Silver in the chicken category.

As icing on the cake, at the world-renowned Global Chefs Challenge 2024, two instructors from the Diploma in Culinary & Catering Management brought international acclaim to TP. Chef Kenny Ng (pictured left) secured Silver in the Global Pastry Chefs Challenge category and placed second among seven countries, while Chef Aloysius Tay (pictured right) took home Gold and placed third among 16 nations. Bravo to our talented chefs!

At the 2024 BLT Built Design Awards, which celebrate global excellence in architecture and the built environment, two of TP’s Diploma in Interior Architecture & Design students stood tall with their accomplishments. Dragon Goh (pictured left) won in the Architectural Design – Emergency and Temporary Housing category, while Nathaniel Chan (pictured right) triumphed in the Interior Design – Residential category.

TP’s Diploma in Applied Artificial Intelligence student, Ng Shi Yu, teamed up with fellow science and technology enthusiasts from NUS High School to represent Singapore at the first International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence. Held in Burgas, Bulgaria, from 9 to 15 August 2024, the group's combined passion and prowess in the field of AI drove Team Singapore to clinch the coveted Gold medal in the competition's scientific round.

From athletic grit to artistic brilliance, TP students consistently shone in sports and arts competitions.

NUS Water Polo Challenge 2024

TP Water Polo made history as the first polytechnic to win this tournament, proving that they can not only hold their own but also thrive in the fiercely competitive Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) arena.

Inter-tertiary, Polytechnic and ITE Karate Championship 2024

TP Karate fended off their tough opponents and claimed a total of 47 medals (14 Gold, 13 Silver and 20 Bronze) across all the categories, clinching them the overall championship title as well.

Singapore Dragon Boat Festival 2024

TP Dragon Boat made a mighty splash, rowing their way to two Gold medals (National Women's and National Tertiary Women's) and two Silver medals (National Men's and National Tertiary Men's).

Singapore International Band Festival 2024

Up against top local and international competitors, our talented TP Band struck all the right notes to clinch their first-ever Gold win at Asia’s premier biennial band competition.

Interschool Exhibition Battle at the Krump Wars 2025

TP Dance Ensemble’s Kahyakaruna Laksmana (pictured left) emerged as champion in the fiercely contested 7-to-Smoke category, outshining dancers from other Institutes of Higher Learning.

TP was the only polytechnic to achieve a double win in the Exemplary SkillsFuture @ Public Service Award category at the Public Sector Transformation Awards 2024. Congratulations to our outstanding colleagues and role models, Mr Elvis Tay (School of Design, pictured left) and Mr Eddy Tan (IT Services, pictured right), for their well-earned recognition in exemplary service and innovation.

The MOE Innergy Awards celebrate bold ideas that elevate teaching and learning. In 2024, TP shone with six award-winning projects and an Outstanding Innovator among our ranks. Innergy (Work Processes) Silver Award

Project title: Campus Insights@TP – Revolutionising Facilities Management Operations in Temasek Polytechnic

Campus Insights is a web and mobile platform that revolutionises TP’s facilities management. It empowers the TP community to report faults 24/7, track maintenance activities, and improve accessibility to campus facilities.

Innergy (Academic) Bronze Award

Project title: Educational AI Chatbots for Individualised Learning

The project delivered a user-friendly, no-programming solution for lecturers to build dedicated AI chatbots, enabling personalised learner engagement and using chatbot interaction logs to tailor content and interventions for each student.

Innergy (Academic) Bronze Award

Project title: An Artificial Intelligence Enabled Wearable TCM Pulse Analyser for Heart Failure Detection

The team created a wearable pulse analyser that augments traditional Chinese medicine principles with AI to detect heart failure. Featuring an in-house designed microfluidic pressure sensor, the device achieved 91% diagnostic accuracy in clinical trials with the National Heart Centre Singapore and the Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Innergy (Work Processes) Commendation

Project title: Launch of Digital Factory with HyFlex Learning

The team adopted a Digital Factory approach to develop a HyFlex learning space within 16 weeks, enabling students to attend on-site classes remotely for medical or official reasons. After a successful pilot, the initiative has since been scaled across TP.

Innergy (Work Processes) Commendation

Project title: Automated Debt Recovery using Robotic Process Automation (RPA)

Using RPA, the team transformed the tedious manual debt collection process into a streamlined, automated system. Personalised email reminders are now sent directly to TP's Continuing Education & Training students with outstanding invoices. The solution has improved collection rates, reduced the backlog of outstanding debts, saved 450 man-hours monthly, and enhanced the fee collection and repayment experience for staff and students.

Innergy (Academic) Commendation

Project Title: Transforming the Student Feedback and Staff Development Ecosystem in TP through TESSy

The Teaching Evaluation and Subject Survey system (TESSy) transformed TP’s feedback ecosystem through customised dashboards and MS Teams-based automated personalised reminders. A holistic approach that promotes open sharing of feedback, TESSy has boosted response rates, enhanced the student experience, and strengthened staff engagement and confidence in TP’s ability to manage change.

TP advances sustainability through education, innovation, and real-world action. The following initiatives reflect our commitment to environmental responsibility and achieving a net-zero future, including:

Sustainability Skills Certificate
TP students can now choose from a range of sustainability-related subjects to earn a certificate that gives them a competitive edge in the Green Economy.

Eco-Innovation: Vanadium Energy Storage
TP has partnered with the industry to pioneer advanced vanadium redox flow battery technology, which offers durable, high-capacity energy storage with longer lifespans and minimal maintenance needs.

Water Efficiency Index (WEI)
TP met its 2030 water savings target five years early by reducing daily water usage to 40.3 litres per person—6.6% below the water efficiency baseline.

TP’s Sustainability Roadmap
TP launched its first Carbon Reduction Blueprint, outlining clear strategies to reduce campus emissions and significantly advance sustainability goals by 2030.

TP’s research, innovation, and enterprise efforts are grounded in real-world applications. Through close collaboration, we develop and deliver purpose-built solutions that create meaningful impact for enterprises and communities alike.

In response to growing safety and speeding concerns surrounding usage of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs) in Singapore, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) partnered with TP's School of Engineering to develop the Portable Top Speed Measuring Device for PMDs.

After field tests validated the device's ability to accurately measure ground speed, wheel size, and wheel speed across various PMD types, the technology was licensed to LTA, with TP building three additional units to support LTA’s enforcement efforts and encourage safer PMD use in the community.

Developed by TP’s Enabling Technology Collaboratory, the Immersive Role-Play Authoring & Assessment Platform is an innovative no-code solution that empowers trainers to create immersive role-playing learning experiences with ease. Its built-in AI-assisted assessment module helps trainers deliver and scale up personalised feedback.

The platform has been adopted by:

  • Changi General Hospital (CGH) Pharmacy for training junior pharmacists
  • CGH’s Patient Experience Transformation to enhance customer service standards among its hospital staff
  • Dunman Secondary School to cultivate empathy among students

TP partnered with tech leader Amazon Web Services (AWS) to establish FutureX. A cutting-edge Digital Technologies and AI Centre, FutureX reflects TP’s commitment to integrating AI into education, in support of Singapore’s National AI Strategy 2.0. At TP’s new hub, AWS experts will co-supervise student and staff projects, co-develop curriculum for TP’s full-time and part-time courses, and deliver advanced training in areas such as GenAI. The space will also showcase innovative cloud and AI solutions developed by TP’s students and staff.

TP's new Chemical Pilot Plant (CPP) represents a bold step forward in applied learning for sustainability. Built to industry standards, CPP equips TP's Diploma in Chemical Engineering students with hands-on experience and future-ready skills aligned with Singapore's Green Economy. Organised into four key sectors—Biodiesel Production, Wastewater Treatment, Safety Corner, and Distributed Control Room—CPP enables students to operate and analyse real-time chemical processes, incorporating advanced augmented reality features to enhance their learning experience.

Temasek Launchpad, the hub for entrepreneurial innovation at TP, remains committed to fostering and supporting youth-driven entrepreneurial initiatives. In 2024, TP provided 300 hours of dedicated mentorship, resulting in notable achievements such as:

Greenponic

Founded by Sherman Yong from TP’s Diploma in Business, Greenponic is revolutionising urban farming through innovative hydroponic systems that empower homes and communities to grow fresh, pesticide-free produce. The start-up’s dual focus on sustainability and community impact received the Grand Silver Award (PET Category) at the National Youth Entrepreneurship Awards 2024.

SGFR

Co-founded by TP’s Diploma in Business alumnus Mohamed Haikkel Bin Firdaus (second from right), SGFR has grown into a thriving international snack retail chain with six outlets across Singapore. Carrying snacks from over 20 countries, the brand’s entrepreneurial success earned SGFR the Grand Silver Award (Alumni Category) at the National Youth Entrepreneurship Awards 2024.

Overhaul

Founded by TP students Fittra Syaifullah (Diploma in Product Experience & Design, pictured left) and Chai Chang Yao (Diploma in Business, pictured right), Overhaul offers a pre-incubator and ideation programme that empowers aspiring founders to learn, collaborate, and gain critical insights, boosting their chances of joining top incubators and accelerators. Overhaul received the $22,000 Youth Action Challenge Award and the $25,000 Ngee Ann Kongsi–SUSS Impact Grant for its innovative contribution to Singapore’s start-up ecosystem.

In celebration of Singapore Design Week 2024, TP's School of Design organised GENERATIONS, a design and AI conference that welcomed 300 educators, students, and industry professionals. The event showcased how AI and GenAI tools are reshaping creativity, future skills, and design education.

Participants explored this evolution through workshops led by our partners, including STUCK Design, Ideactio, the School of MetaSkills, Adobe, and AWS. They were further inspired by keynote talks from industry leaders, including Er Young Sing (Figma APAC), Alvina Goh (GovTech), Nav Qirti (Ideactio), and Tung Ching Yew (Society of Interior Designers).

TP and Canon Singapore signed a strategic MOU at the Security Industry Conference 2024 to establish a new Security Technology Experience Centre (STEC). Backed by Canon’s group of companies, Axis Communications, BriefCam and Milestone Systems, this state-of-the-art hub will feature cutting-edge surveillance technology, software, and expertise to train the next generation of security professionals. STEC will also develop specialised CET programmes to upskill the workforce and meet the evolving demands of Singapore’s security landscape.

To nurture tomorrow's eco-leaders, TP's School of Design developed Guardians of Gaia, a game-based teaching tool that deepens players' understanding of sustainability and global challenges. The game is now an experiential learning activity for TP's Sustainability & Climate Action, a mandatory subject for our PET students.

Guardians of Gaia also features in various TP sustainability workshops, including the Sustainability Camp for Educators. Supported by the SG Eco Fund, the camp was organised by TP's Learning Academy, along with the Schools of Design and Business. The event hosted educators from Maris Stella High School, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School, and other polytechnics, who participated in hands-on activities and discussions on integrating sustainability into teaching practices.

In April 2024, TP Library launched an automated document delivery service that taps into a global network of reciprocal libraries. Imagine requesting an article in Singapore and receiving it from the United Kingdom within 24 hours. That’s the kind of speed and access available to TP staff and students! Thanks to streamlined processes and faster turnaround times, the service has made it easier to tap into online journal articles and book chapters from other institutions of higher learning worldwide. Since its launch, TP Library’s document delivery request volume has increased tenfold as compared to 2023.

TP collaborated with the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the Singapore Police Force to conduct a full-scale campus shutdown exercise from 29 October to 1 November 2024. The exercise tested TP's key protocols, including evacuation drills, threat responses, and Home-Based Learning and Work-from-Home arrangements.

During a bomb threat simulation, TP staff effectively carried out their roles, enabling a smooth and coordinated evacuation of the campus. With zero incidents reported, the exercise successfully showcased TP's preparedness in emergency scenarios.

A YEAR OF DOING GOOD

TP deepened its commitment to supporting the special needs community by formalising a three-year partnership with APSN Ltd. This MOU will pave the way for collaborations across staff engagement, student development, and curriculum innovation to advance inclusivity and empowerment. This partnership marks a significant step toward supporting the community and making a positive impact together.

In October 2024, more than 250 TP staff and students demonstrated the power of collective action for a greener environment. Across three mornings, they gathered at East Coast Park for a major beach clean-up, collecting more than 80kg of trash—including nearly 5,000 cigarette butts and other pieces of litter such as plastic bottles, cans, and food packaging. Their collective efforts reflect TP’s commitment to creating a more sustainable future!

Our ongoing CSR and #TPCares initiatives and efforts continue to bring the TP Family together, forging meaningful connections and creating a positive impact.

PROJECT REFRESH

As part of our continued partnership with the North East Community Development Council, the TP Family again rallied for this meaningful home makeover initiative.

In April and August 2024, over 120 staff, students, and family volunteers rolled up their sleeves to clean, paint, and declutter 14 rental flats across Sengkang, Aljunied, and Tampines, bringing renewed comfort and dignity to the lives of seniors and low-income families.

Senior Befriending Programme

In collaboration with Presbyterian Community Services, TP’s Senior Befriending Programme brings monthly visits and heartfelt companionship to elderly residents in the Tampines community.

Since 2022, over 85 sessions have been conducted by more than 30 dedicated staff volunteers, offering comfort and connection to seniors living alone. Now in its third year, the programme’s growth is a clear sign of TP’s commitment to helping our community’s silver residents.

Toy Buffet

TP partnered with Food from the Heart for the second year to spread joy at the annual Toy Buffet. Nearly 70 TP volunteers collected, packed, and distributed 500 new, preloved, donated toys, bringing smiles to around 2,500 children from low-income families.

The November 2024 event at Nanyang Technological University served as a powerful reminder of how small acts of giving, especially during the year-end festive season, can make a significant difference.

TP's signature biannual Campus Care Network (CCN) Day was held on 28 June and 15 November 2024. Over 170 fun and vibrant student- and staff-run stalls selling items, snacks, and services were set up, raising more than $34,000. These efforts contributed to the year's total of $57,810 for TP's CCN Fund, which supports students in need of financial assistance.

Project Smile Cambodia 2024 saw TP’s School of Humanities & Social Sciences staff and students journeying to Por-Raksmey Sangkum Primary School where they refurbished a classroom with new tiles and paint, provided English and Math lessons to the community’s children and distributed donations of essential items to over 500 underprivileged families.

TP’s School of Informatics & IT collaborated with Fengshan Youth Network and the National Youth Council to bring Coding with Kids 2024 to life! These student-led workshops introduced young tech enthusiasts from Chongzheng Primary School and Tampines North Primary School to the fundamentals of coding through engaging platforms such as Pictoblox and CodeSpark. Having to cater to diverse learning needs, the experience also honed our student facilitators’ communication skills and adaptability, making it a valuable chapter in their journey of personal growth.

In support of the South East Community Development Council's annual Walk for Rice campaign, where every 300 metres walked translated into the FairPrice Foundation donating three bowls of grains to vulnerable families, TP’s Community Service Club CCA rallied over 2,000 staff, students, alumni, and members of the public to clock a total of 6,497km, tripling the previous year’s distance! The three-day event also featured game booths, food stations, and lively performances, transforming this charity drive into a campus-wide celebration.

The Applied Science Studies Club CCA brought young families together at ASCares, a healthcare-themed carnival held at Punggol Oasis Terraces. Attracting over 1,200 registered participants, the event featured engaging and interactive booths where children explored science through fun, educational experiments. A special highlight was the Certificate of Appreciation presented by Hao Ren Hao Shi to TP’s School of Applied Science, recognising our impactful contributions to community education.

For the fourth year running, TP received the Silver Ribbon Mental Health Award (School Institution category), recognising our sustained efforts in promoting mental wellness, reducing stigma, and supporting our campus community. This award recognises exemplary dedication to promoting mental health.

A YEAR OF AMAZING EXPERIENCES

TP's Open House 2025 had a night to remember, with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong joining staff, students and members of the public in celebrating innovation, creativity, and community spirit. From exploring sustainability showcases and tech and entrepreneurial projects to sampling TP's plant-based food creations, PM Wong experienced the best of TP. PM Wong was also warmly welcomed as he stopped for chats and selfies with students and guests at TP’s Evening Fest. The night concluded with the launch of the TP35 mural, marking a vibrant start to TP's 35th anniversary celebrations.

On 21 March 2025, our Temasek Arts Centre proudly presented DREAMS: A Legacy in Motion, A Future Unfolding to mark TP's 35th milestone anniversary. TP's largest production since 2007, DREAMS honoured our past, celebrated the present, and envisioned the future through a stellar line-up of student and alumni talent.

A standout moment at the concert was the unveiling of TP's time capsule, which had been sealed by our founding Principal & CEO, Dr Natarajan Varaprasad, in 2001. The celebration continued with a public-ticketed show the next day, with proceeds going to TP's CCN Fund in support of our students in need.

Professor Emeritus Dr Colin Beard (front row, fourth from left), an international leader in experiential learning, delivered a masterclass in TP, focusing on the importance of engaging all senses to immerse oneself in the learning process. He delved into the mechanics of experiential learning design, introducing frameworks such as BME (Beginning, Middle, End) and the Holistic Experiential Learning Theory, empowering TP educators to create meaningful learning environments for their students.

TP had the honour of hosting His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah (pictured second from right), Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Brunei Darussalam. The royal delegation visited TP's Aquaculture Innovation Centre and the Centre for Research & Opportunities in Plant Science to explore advancements in sustainable agri-food technologies.

The visit also marked the signing of three MOUs with Politeknik Brunei, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, the International Association for Agricultural Sustainability and the Brunei Economic Development Board. These partnerships will enhance student and staff exchanges, promote agricultural and aquaculture innovation in Brunei, and foster collaborative research through joint laboratories and training facilities.

Local creativity took centre stage with TP’s School of Design's two-week exhibition Made in Singapore: The Design Stories at Jewel Changi Airport. The event showcased works by the School's alumni—some household names in street culture and fashion, others internationally acclaimed designers.

Visitors were treated to an inspiring array of designs, including sustainable furniture, heritage fashion, subculture-infused footwear, and wellness-focused landscape design. Following its run at Jewel, the exhibition will be featured at other locations around Singapore, including the Central Public Library, *SCAPE, and Funan Mall.

TP staff engage in diverse platforms both locally and globally, gaining fresh insights, exchanging best practices, and bringing back knowledge that enriches our campus, classrooms, and community.

Higher Education Executive Innovation Visit to Arizona State University (ASU), United States

Ms June Lim (IT Services), Mr Sankara Rajulu and Dr Foo Chek Yang (School of Informatics & IT) joined participants from top institutions across Singapore, Japan, and South Korea for insights into ASU's digital transformation journey, immersive tech labs, and cloud innovation. The trio also visited TP's industry partners, including Fortinet, Cisco, and Unity Technologies, to explore new ideas for enhancing tech-enabled learning and industry collaboration at TP.

Asian Film Alliance Network (AFAN) Spotlight, South Korea

Mr Kannan Vijakumar, TP’s Digital Film & Television course lecturer, took to the stage as a panellist in AFAN's discussion: The Role and Impact of Film Schools for the Asian Film Industry. He highlighted the course's holistic, industry-integrated approach, which is built on progressive project-based learning, real-world immersion, participation in global competitions, and robust industry ties. His insights underscored TP's role in shaping the future of Asian filmmaking through impactful film education.

10th UNESCO-APEID Meeting, Uzbekistan

Mr Thomas Lee (Innovation & Entrepreneurship) delivered a presentation on the transformative power of GenAI in entrepreneurship education. He shared TP's strategies for nurturing aspiring entrepreneurs and highlighted how TP leverages technology to foster innovation, enhance educational outcomes, and equip students with the skills necessary to succeed.

Innovation and Entrepreneurial Excellence Learning Journey, Estonia

Ms Rowena Zheng (RIE & Partnership Development) and Mr Ramesh Krish Kumar (Innovation & Entrepreneurship) embarked on a learning journey to Tallinn, a renowned global hub for start-up innovation. Their visits to leading incubators, a smart business campus, and the Latitude59 Conference provided deep insights into Estonia’s agile entrepreneurial ecosystem. Their experiences will steer efforts in integrating global best practices with TP’s innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives.

In Dialogue with Reggio Emilia International Conference, Singapore

Mr Terence Lin, from the National Institute of Early Childhood Development, represented TP as a panellist at this international conference, held for the first time in Singapore. He discussed the importance of visual arts as a form of literacy for children's self-expression, discussing how mark-making helps develop diverse literacy skills. He also highlighted how the visual arts track in TP’s Diploma in Early Childhood Development & Education helps TP students foster creativity in preschoolers while growing as resourceful and imaginative educators themselves.

From study trips to global summits, training camps, and more, our students travelled the world and returned transformed in 2024!

Curtin University X TP – Designer Unknown Exhibition, Australia

Students from TP’s School of Design partnered with Curtin University to develop GenAI projects exploring themes of sustainability, inclusivity, ethics, and the future of design. Their works, which demonstrated the limitless potential of design and AI, were showcased at the university. During the trip, students also explored emerging technologies, connected with their Australian peers and drew inspiration from curated exhibitions at the John Curtin Gallery.

The 4th Global Peace Summit, Thailand

Youth delegates from around the world gathered in Bangkok to exchange ideas and champion peacebuilding efforts. A group of students across TP's academic schools participated in thought-provoking plenary sessions, engaging discussions, and global networking opportunities, gaining valuable knowledge, skills, and inspiration to advocate for peace as future changemakers.

Global Engagement Programme, Finland

Aalto University welcomed 18 students from the Temasek LEADership Programme, TP's talent development initiative, for an enriching study trip. The group explored a diverse range of topics, including Finland's political system and economy, as well as its approaches to education, entrepreneurship, and the arts. Through workshops, industry visits, and cultural exchanges, they gained valuable global insights and returned inspired to drive innovative change back home.

WorldSkills Study Trip, France

Over 30 students from various courses embarked on TP's School of Business' first interdisciplinary overseas study trip to experience the vibrant and competitive atmosphere of WorldSkills Lyon 2024. The trip also fostered cross-disciplinary learning as students explored the intersections of communication, culinary arts, hospitality, and logistics. They also captured competition footage to support marketing efforts and inspire new talent for future WorldSkills competitions.

Overseas Sports Training Camp, Hong Kong

TP’s Tchoukball Women’s Team embarked on an intensive training programme in Hong Kong to gear up for the 2025 sporting season. They played friendly matches against teams from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Education University of Hong Kong, exchanging valuable insights with their counterparts to sharpen their on-court skills and strengthen squad spirit.
