The primary purpose of the revised part-time Diploma is to allow Singaporeans to upgrade their skills so that they may perform their job better, and at a higher level, or even switch to jobs in a different sector. This focus allows us to sharpen the curriculum and content to deliver cutting-edge knowledge and practice to students, while allowing us to make the courses more compact and modular.

The new framework is based on Modular Certificates (MCs). Each MC for a particular diploma equips students with content and skills in core industry domains, and hence is valued by employers. The MCs are developed in consultation with the industry to ensure greater curriculum-relevancy to the training needs of adult learners.

No, the quality of programmes will not be affected. Programmes under the previous framework were modelled after equivalent pre-employment diplomas offered by the polytechnic. Under the new framework, the number of hours required to achieve a diploma (900 hours comprising 5 modular certificates of 180 hours each) is lower.

MOE’s part-time diplomas, which are determined in consultation with economic agencies and the industries, have a broader scope of training and are more content-focused. SSG’s Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) diplomas are vocational in design, developed with validation from the industries based on a comprehensive set of performance standards around specific occupations and job areas.

SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG’s) Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Programme (WPLN) which serves as an alternative to traditional qualifications and offers training on generic employability skills to raise a worker's effectiveness and improve his work abilities. Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements but are assessed by Temasek Polytechnic as potentially suitable candidates, may at the discretion of the Polytechnic, be considered for written and/or oral assessments conducted by TP. TP reserves the right to accept candidates based on their performance at this assessment.

Students are required to hold a valid pass for the duration of the course. Students have to bear the full risk of non-completion should their pass expire and subsequently lapse within the duration of the course. 

The duration of the CET Diploma is 900 hours including both contact and non-contact (self-learning) hours and comprises 5 Modular Certificates (MCs) and each MC is 180 hours or 6 months. Upon successful completion of the 5 relevant MCs, the participants will be conferred a full qualification of a Diploma. Depending on the pace of learning, students can complete a Diploma in a minimum of 2.5 years.

The duration of each MC is approximately 6 months, with lessons being held 3 times a week, from 7pm to 10pm on weekdays and/or 9am to 1pm on Saturday.  Lesson schedules are subject to change. You will receive your course timetable about 1 month before the course commences.

To obtain a full qualification of a Diploma course, you are given up to two times the normal course duration to complete the course, i.e. 5 years or ten semesters.

You can apply to part-time undergraduate programmes which are relevant to your diploma course at NUS, NTU and SUSS.

The revised part-time diploma is intended to be more accessible to the workforce, and is made shorter in duration compared to the full-time diploma because broad-based interdisciplinary modules, final year projects and internships, as well as academic modules such as Mathematics and Sciences, are omitted. As such, most part-time undergraduate programmes would require you to go through a bridging programme to prepare you adequately before admission.

The duration and cost of the bridging programmes will depend on the type and nature of the part-time degree course that you apply for. The duration is expected to be between six months to a year. The fee will not be more expensive than undergraduate modules of comparable duration. You may wish to check with the relevant institution for more details.

Courses are run in April and/or October of each year. Application for the April intake starts in early November and October intake starts in early May.

You are required to make full course fee payment by the payment deadline when you are offered admission to the course.  This is to enable us to confirm your place in the course. Payment of course fee is taken as acceptance into the course.

To qualify for TA, you will need to meet the minimum attendance requirement of 75% for each module as part of the terms and conditions for Workfare’s scheme. 

The request for subject exemption must be raised with Temasek SkillsFuture Academy within 2 weeks from semester commencement and only 1 application is allowed per student per modular certificate. All subject exemption will be considered on a case-by-case basis at the polytechnic’s discretion.

b) name of course(s) previously attempted/completed by applicant

The minimum attendance requirement for students is at least 50% overall attendance for face-to-face sessions for each subject. Medical leave and Leave of Absence (LOA) are NOT considered part of the 50% attendance. Should you be absent for a class assessment, you are required to submit a medical certificate or approved LOA to be eligible for a re-assessment. Examinations are not considered as class assessments.

If you are a WSS recipient applying for Training Allowance or you are under company sponsorship which is applying for Absentee Payroll, you will need to meet the minimum attendance requirement of 75% for each module as part of the terms and conditions for Workfare’s scheme.

The programme offers a blend of traditional learning methods such as face-to-face classroom interactions, along with self-directed learning and/or e-learning (estimated at 15% of contact hours). Students will be assessed based on assignments, class tests and written exams.

Examinations are compulsory, unless the modules are Continuous Assessment Modules. Examinations are conducted at the end of each semester while the term tests are held in mid-semester.

If you fail any of the subject (s), you will take the repeat subject(s) upon completion of the last MC/PDC.

It is to provide more flexibility for adult learners to pursue continuing education & training (CET) by making the Academic CET courses more compact and modular, without compromising on the quality and rigour of these programmes.  This would allow adult learners to customise the pace of training according to their learning needs.  The end in mind is to raise the productivity and competitiveness of Singapore’s workforce.

The new framework is based on Post-Diploma Certificates (PDCs). Each PDC for a particular Post- Diploma course equips students with content and skills in core industry domains, and hence is valued by employers. The PDCs are developed in consultation with the industry to ensure greater curriculum-relevancy to the training needs of adult learners. 

Under the revised CET Post-Diploma Qualifications Framework, there are three types of Post-Diploma courses i.e. Advanced Diploma (AD), Specialist Diploma (SD) and Diploma (Conversion) courses. AD and SD courses are both designed to enable existing diploma or degree holders to deepen their knowledge and skills and develop specialisations within their trained discipline areas.

• SD courses will have a shorter duration of between 240 and 300 hours and can generally be completed in about a year (or two 6-month semesters).  They will consist of two Post-Diploma Certificates (PDCs). 
• AD courses have a broader scope of training and hence will have a duration of between 480 and 600 hours and can generally be completed in about a year and a half to two years (or three to four 6-month semesters).  They will consist of three or more Post-Diploma Certificates (PDCs).
   

On the other hand, Diploma (Conversion) courses seek to prepare existing diploma or degree holders to undertake jobs in a different discipline area, i.e. for career conversion. These courses will have a duration of 240 hours or longer, depending on the amount of time needed to effectively equip an adult learner who possess a diploma/degree qualification with the requisite knowledge and skills to undertake a job in a different discipline area or industry. These programmes are generally completed in a year and offered as  two Post-Diploma Certificates (PDCs)  for a one-year course. Unlike CET Diplomas which are more broad-based, these Diploma (Conversion) courses are focused and directed towards specific job requirements and therefore can be completed in a much shorter duration.

The Post-Diploma programmes seek to prepare existing diploma or degree holders to undertake jobs in a different discipline area, i.e. for career conversion or to enable existing diploma or degree holders to deepen their knowledge and skills and develop specialisations within their trained discipline areas. The curriculum of the Post-Diploma programmes builds on the polytechnic diploma curriculum and hence the MER include a polytechnic diploma. You may refer to the MER specific to the course here.

However, individual universities may, at their own discretion, take these additional qualifications into consideration when assessing your application.

RPL refers to the recognition of learning and competencies acquired or currently held by individuals. The learning and competencies may be attained through formal and informal training, education or work experiences and recognition is given based on assessment of evidence submitted against endorsed industry or company competency standards.

RPL is for working adults who have significant work experience and prior learning to apply for admission to any participating RPL courses when they do not meet the minimum entry requirement and/or for purpose of subject exemption where applicable.

You can submit the RPL application at the same time when you apply to enroll into your preferred course provided it is a participating RPL course. Please refer to this flowchart.

When you approach the Polytechnic, you will be provided a list of appropriate evidence specific to the course. Some examples include the following:

• Industry Certification (eg. CAAS, CISCO)
• Certificates of Learning (eg. Company in-house training, ITE Certification, Poly CET module certification, WSQ Certification, MOOCs, Online modular assessments)
• Employer References (eg. Letter of recommendation or sponsorship)
• Interviews & Portfolio Examinations (eg. Proof of projects involvement) 

In some cases, you may be required to attend an interview or take an assessment test.  

An administrative fee may be chargeable for RPL applications and evaluation (eg. preliminary test for admission or required assessments for subject/module exemption). The fees chargeable will not be refundable to applicants upon payment made. The details for fees administration will be specified in the participating course webpage.

The successful RPL outcome will be one of the following:

• Course admission
• Course admission with subject/module exemption
• Course admission with subject/module credit transfer
