Course Outline

Day 1

Security & Risk Management
The candidate will be expected to understand the planning, organization, and roles of individuals in identifying and securing an organization’s information assets; the development and use of policies stating management views and position on particular topics and the use of guidelines, standards, and procedures to support the policies; security awareness training to make aware of the importance of information security, its significance, and the specific security – related requirements relative to their position; the importance of confidentiality, proprietary and private information; employment agreements; employee hiring and termination practices; and risk management practices and tools to identify, rate, and reduce the risk to specific resources.

Asset Security
The candidate will be expected to know the resources that must be protected, the privileges that must be restricted, the control mechanisms available, the potential for abuse of access, the appropriate controls and the principles of good practice.

Day 2

Security Engineering
The candidate will be expected to understand fundamental concepts of security models, information systems security evaluation models, the application and use of cryptography, site and facility design considerations, site planning and the implementation and operation of facilities security.

Day 3

Communications & Network Security
The candidate is expected to demonstrate an understanding of communications and network security as it relates to voice communications; data communications in terms of local area, wide area, and remote access; Internet/Intranet/Extranet in terms of Firewalls, Routers, and TCP/IP; and communications security management and techniques in terms of preventive, detective and corrective measures.

Day 4

Identity & Access Management
The candidate will be expected to understand identity and authentication of people and devices, identity management implementation, implementation and management of authorization mechanisms and prevention or mitigation of access control attacks.

Security Assessment & Testing
The candidate is expected to demonstrate an understanding of assessment and test strategies, collection of security process data and internal and third party audits.

Day 5

Security Operations
The candidate will be expected to know the resources that must be protected, the privileges that must be restricted, the control mechanisms available, the potential for abuse of access, the appropriate controls and the principles of good practice.

Security in the Software Development Life Cycle
The candidate will be expected to understand the applications development environment in order to provide input and guidance for including security controls into applications development projects.

Entry Requirements

At least 2 years of working experience in an IT role.

Certification

Participants will be issued with a Certificate of Accomplishment upon meeting 75% of the required course attendance and passing the assessments.
