Overview

Introduction

The SkillsFuture Earn & Learn Programme (ELP) for the Energy & Chemicals sector is a 12-month work-study programme leading to the part-time Diploma in Applied Science (Chemical Technology). It provides participants with relevant knowledge and skills in process engineering, occupational safety and health, environmental technology, productivity and quality management to support the continued growth of the chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries. 

Upon completing the 2 skills-based Modular Certificates (MC) under the ELP Energy & Chemicals, participants will be able to understand and apply the process engineering principles and knowledge relevant to the operational requirements in the chemical and chemical-related industries.

Target Participants

Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents who are fresh ITE graduates from relevant chemical-related full-time courses of study.

Career Opportunities

The job role offered under this ELP Energy & Chemicals programme is a Junior Process Technician (Trainee)1.

Upon successful completion of ELP, graduates may take on the role of a Junior Process Technician. They may also look forward to wage increment and role expansion in their workplace, subject to their work performance.

Upon successful completion of the part-time diploma course, graduates may look forward to taking up the role of a Process Technician. 

Academic Progression

ELP Energy & Chemicals participants have the option to take up the remaining 3 skills-based Modular Certificates (MCs) to obtain the part-time Diploma in Applied Science (Chemical Technology).

Course Details

Course Commencement 

The ELP Energy & Chemicals programme is scheduled to commence every April and/or October.

Course Duration

Participants will undergo a 12-month structured work-and-study programme, including facilitated learning, e-learning, professional certification, and on-job-training (OJT).

Course Structure

ELP Energy & Chemicals participants are required to complete a total of 2 skills-based Modular Certificates (MCs). Each MC can be completed in 1 semester, i.e. 6 months. A certificate will be issued once the requirements for each MC are met. Participants must complete these 2 MCs within 12 months.

Upon completing the ELP, graduates can have the option to complete the remaining 3 MCs to obtain the part-time Diploma in Applied Science (Chemical Technology).

Modes of Assessment

The assessment framework will include a range of coursework components such as laboratory, tutorial and project assignments, class participation, tests, quizzes and examination.

MOE subsidy will not be applicable for students who repeat a module or semester.

Fees payable is based on per PDC.

The course fees will be reviewed by MOE on an annual basis and adjusted accordingly.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria for ELP Energy & Chemicals

Singaporeans or Singapore Permanent Residents who are within three years of either graduation from the ITE or the Operational Ready Date (ORD) for National Servicemen from the following full-time programmes are eligible to apply.

Only for Singapore Citizens who are fresh ITE or Polytechnic graduates hired by Participating Companies and officially commenced ELP within 3 years of graduation or ORD.

Selection of applicants is at the discretion of the participating companies and participating companies will contact their shortlisted applicants for interview. Applicants have the right to reject the interview if they do not wish to be employed by the company who contacted them.

Only applicants who are hired and placed on the ELP by the participating companies will be invited to submit an online application for the ELP Courses.
