Intertwined explores how identity is shaped by the things we never chose. The emotional, cultural, and biological inheritances that settle into us long before we understand them. It reflects on what is passed down through love, lineage, and the body itself, from a mother’s pride to ancestral distance, to the quiet fragilities written into our biology. The collection examines how these forces create pressure points within us in places where expectation, memory, and even illness gather. These points act as anchors: sometimes they restrict, sometimes they hold us together. Each knot or tension in the garments becomes a symbol of this duality, carrying both ache and release, burden and resilience.

Intertwined ultimately searches for the space between holding on and letting go. It is a meditation on coexistence: accepting what shapes us while learning not to be defined by it. Through oversized forms, soft tensions, and subtle binds, the collection transforms inheritance into evolution, revealing the quiet beauty of living within the in-between.

Hi, I’m Cher Yen, and I am drawn to storytelling through form and material. I tend to observe quietly and reflect deeply, which naturally shapes how I approach my work. I enjoy experimenting with textures, layering, and construction, incorporating them into my designs to explore subtle contrasts and emotions.

My process is intuitive and hands-on, often guided by curiosity and personal experiences. I am interested in creating pieces that feel abstract and intentional, rather than being overly direct. Through my work, I hope to create garments that people can connect with, pieces that feel personal, constantly evolving, and quietly expressive.
