Social media gave us the freedom to connect with others globally, but it has also taken over how we think about ourselves and dictates our self-worth, shaping how we perceive success and happiness. While many youths know that social media can negatively affect their mental well-being, they still feel pressured to keep up with curated, “perfect” posts. This leads to constant self-comparison, feelings of inadequacy, and confusion between online highlights and real life, with very few safe spaces to pause, reflect, and process how they actually feel.
Perfectly Imperfect aims to show youths that what they see on social media is often just a filtered highlight reel, hiding the struggles, effort, and emotions behind each post. By revealing the “unseen sides” of social media, it encourages them to stop harsh self-comparison and to develop a healthier, more compassionate view of themselves and their online habits.
