In a city optimised for efficiency, doing nothing often feels like a failure. The pressure to be constantly productive turns the daily commute into a mechanical routine. For many, this inability to switch off becomes a barrier to mental well-being.
The Root Problem is a spatial manifesto that reclaims Singapore’s third spaces to disrupt this cycle. By transforming various areas along the commute home, the project helps physically strip away the urban hum. It serves as a gentle interruption, challenging commuters to break out of their routines and remember they are living organisms that need to rest.
