Our hawker culture has been cherished by Singaporeans for generations for its convenience and affordability. Over time, hawker centres have woven into our neighbourhoods and lifestyles, becoming go-to spots for our daily meals.
But beyond simply fueling us, what is the true value of hawker food?
Beyond Makan is a campaign in partnership with the National Heritage Board that seeks to recognise the deeper significance of hawker food beyond its affordability. Through a series of cards, we invite everyone to explore the stories behind each dish, each hawker, and each hawker centre. These stories continue online, where deeper histories can be explored and personal memories shared as part of a growing archive.
Because hawker food feeds more than our stomachs. It feeds our culture, our relationships, and our heritage.
