Cooking Hack!
Dip the green onion butt you were about to discard into a cup of water. With time, it regrows fresh green shoots—just like a few other everyday vegetable scraps.
In urban Singapore, where convenience and price shape food choices, meals often arrive ready to eat. It rarely occurs to us—or feels necessary—to question how food reaches our plates. We eat, discard, and move on, overlooking the influence we hold as consumers and how our everyday habits shape the sustainability of our local food system.
Save My Butt! invites Singaporeans—starting with home cooks—to rethink food through kitchen scrap gardening. By transforming everyday “waste” into an easy, playful growing process, this project offers an accessible entry point into a more sustainable local food system.
