Unseen Paws explores the growing issue of animal abuse and neglect in Singapore, focusing on the gap between awareness and action among youths. Despite increased reporting and existing animal welfare laws, research shows that many cases stem from ignorance, lack of emotional connection, and uncertainty about how to respond. Survey findings revealed that while most youths recognise animal abuse as a serious issue, few feel confident identifying subtle signs or knowing where and how to report cases.
In response, this project aims to empower youths by reframing stray animals as “invisible friends” within Singapore’s communities, present yet often overlooked. Through empathy-driven storytelling and accessible guidance, the project seeks to build emotional awareness, improve understanding of animal welfare, and encourage responsible action. By bridging perception and protection, the project aspires to cultivate a more informed, compassionate, and proactive generation that recognises animal welfare as a shared community responsibility.

Hey there! Syafiqah here, and as an empath, I believe that design goes beyond aesthetics; it should be something that helps build understanding, shift behaviours, and strengthen bonds between people and their environment. I'm constantly growing and improving myself, and I believe that every step, every decision, every design can make the world a better place.
