The Art of Imperfection

Category
Sustainable Cities and Communities

This farm-to-table cafe board game engages families and the neighbourhood, bringing people to people, strangers to strangers, and communities to communities. The Art of Imperfection features interactive spaces that captivate the users and their senses; this fosters opportunities for conversations to strengthen and mend relationships in hopes of building a more harmonious, sustainable, and beautiful community.

The concept: Kintsugi, the art of repair. Its process reinforces that perfection isn't necessary for beauty and that "making do" can be tremendously satisfying. Likewise, the aim of this design is neither to create nor define a perfect community but rather to allow its users to define that for themselves.

Redefine. I have heard this word multiple times throughout the past three years here. If there is one thing I have learned as an amateur designer, it is the ability to challenge myself and overcome design issues through the process by redefining the way people give life to architecture and vice versa. Though it's a lifelong skill that will never be perfected in this industry, there is grace in knowing that there is no right or wrong, and it is merely subjective.
