Filial Fish is a culturally grounded tableware set that helps younger generations learn and practise traditional Teochew dining values. Focusing on the serving stage of family meals, it guides users on hierarchy, serving order, and proper chopstick etiquette. Visual cues, purposeful forms, and structured components translate concepts such as respect and seniority into tangible interactions. The fish model is portioned to indicate to whom each part should be served, while dedicated tools reinforce appropriate gestures. Suitable for both play-based simulation and real dining use, Filial Fish embeds cultural meaning into everyday rituals, turning shared meals into intergenerational learning experiences.

Hi, I’m Valerie, a curious and experimental young product designer who enjoys turning stories and everyday behaviours into playful physical experiences. My recent work explores how interactive installations can bring people together. Guided by curiosity and imagination, I design with the belief that meaningful experiences can emerge from the simplest objects.

Proficient in a range of technical skills, I bring my ideas to life through 3D visualisations and prototyping. I am constantly looking for new opportunities to challenge the market, bringing fresh new perspectives on what defines everyday interaction.
