Course Overview

[Previously known as AEMTPBZ008 IT Tools for Accounting and Investment]

 

Have you wondered how business owners keep tabs of their profits and grow their investments?

 

This module will start you off into the world of accounting, giving you hands-on experience in the use of the accounting information systems. You will be taught how to generate meaningful reports to aid in business decision making.

 

In addition, various financial concepts such as potential of company and profit measures will be taught to equip you with know-how to make good investment decisions to grow your money. Combining your understanding in financial concepts and the use of a financial database, you will be given the opportunity to select an investment, and analyse whether your chosen investment will land you the millions!

 

Profit maximization tip: POA understanding will help you get the most out of this course.

 

OBJECTIVES OF THIS MODULE

 

  • practical skills in using an accounting software to record business transactions and prepare financial statements.
  • uderstanding of basic investment concepts and applying it to analyse share investments through the use of an integrated financial database platform.

 

Note: This module is taught intensively over a 1-week or 4 day session during the Secondary Schools’ Post-exam period or school vacation.

What You'll Learn

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

 

  • record business transactions using an accounting software.
  • generate financial statements and other useful reports using an accounting software.
  • understand and interpret financial statements for the purpose of making share investments decisions.
  • use an integrated financial database platform to facilitate investment analysis.

 

Students will be assessed based on the following criteria:

 

  • Class Participation (individual) - 10%
  • Quiz(es) (individual) - 10%
  • Test (individual) - 40%
  • Project (group) & Individual Presentation or Reflections - 40%

 

Individual Work: 70% 
Group Work: 30%

 

Completion criteria:

 

Students are required to:

 

  • Fulfill 75% of the attendance and
  • Obtain a pass mark of at least 50% upon completion of the module.
