Course Overview

Do you ever make decisions which lead to being unprepared for exams, overspending or overeating? This module helps you make better decisions in everyday situations through behavioural insights. You will have a better understanding of the decision making process and how biases may lead to poor decisions and less optimal outcomes. You will also learn decision-making techniques and methods to change behaviour such as by making small changes to the environment. These methods help to overcome biases and you will learn to apply them to real life scenarios.

 

It will be conducted within a duration of 30 hours with a class size of 20.

 

 

OBJECTIVES OF THIS MODULE

 

This module aims to help students make better decisions in everyday situations through behavioural insights.

 

Students will learn decision-making techniques and methods to change behaviour such as by making small changes to the environment.

What You'll Learn

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

 

  • Understand how people make decisions
  • Identify and explain biases in decision making
  • Apply decision making techniques or nudges (small changes to the decision making environment) which lead to better outcomes

 

Students will be assessed based on the following criteria:

 

 

  • Class Participation (individual) 10%
  • Learning journey/ Case study (group) 10%
  • Test (individual) 40%
  • Project & presentation (group) 40%

 

Completion criteria:

Students are required to:

 

  • Fulfill 75% of the attendance and
  • Obtain a pass mark of at least 50% upon completion of the module.
