Course Overview

This module introduces the students to the fundamentals of electronics, physics, math and coding through a fun and interactive way, from understanding the concepts to the actual implementation in real life situations.

 

It will be conducted within a duration of 30 hours with a class size of 20.

 

OBJECTIVES OF THIS MODULE

 

  1. Develop students’ understanding of STEM/STEAM
  2. Provide opportunities for students to develop basic coding skills
  3. Develop students’ understanding of mechanics and forces and applied math
  4. Introduce students to Arduino-based programming

What You'll Learn

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

 

  1. Understand the basic concepts of electronics
  2. Implement and patch some simple electronic projects
  3. Understand the concept of coding
  4. Identify the different forces such as normal contact force, tensile and compressive force and friction happening in 
  5. the world around us and how do they make an object move or stay at rest
  6. Describe robotics movement in a plane using matrices and vectors
  7. Understand basic Arduino coding
  8. Implement Arduino coding knowledge to build simple projects

 

Students will be assessed on the following criteria:

 

Individual

  • Class Participation - 5%
  • Assignment 1 (Individual Lab Work) - 15%
  • Assignment 2 (Individual Lab Work) - 10%
  • Assignment 3 (Individual Lab Work) - 25%

 

Group

  • Project 1 - 25%
  • Project 2 - 20%

 

Completion criteria:

Students are required to:

 

  • Fulfill 75% of the attendance and
  • Obtain a pass mark of at least 50% upon completion of the module.
