Course Overview

Did you know that data is powerful and can be tapped to reveal exciting truths? This module covers an introduction data analytics and social media analytics. You will understand how data analytics is used to solve real-world problems. You will learn how to explore, interpret and communicate data insights to support decision-making and predicting trends. On social media analytics, you will learn about the key performance metrics for customer engagement and benchmark them with competitors.


It will be conducted within a duration of 30 hours with a class size of 20.




  1. This module introduces students to the basic concepts of data analytics and visualisation.
  2. Students also get to apply social media analytics in real-life examples.

What You'll Learn

At the end of the module, students will be able to:


  • Understand the key concepts in data analytics
  • Use of data dashboard and reporting tools
  • Apply social media analytics on key social media platforms


Students will be assessed based on the following criteria:


  • Field Trip Reflections (individual) – 20%
  • Quizzes (individual) – 10%
  • Group Project – 40%
  • Lab Assignment(s) (individual) – 20%
  • Class Participation (individual) – 10% 


Completion criteria:


Students are required to:


  • Fulfill 75% of the attendance and
  • Obtain a pass mark of at least 50% upon completion of the module.
