Darren Chua’s achievements in the pool have made him one of the most bemedalled swimmers in TP history.
Darren consistently makes waves at school-level meets, such as the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Swimming Championships. In 2019, he broke two IVP competition records and claimed a personal medal haul of 7 Gold and 1 Silver. More recently, Darren was in the Philippines, making his SEA Games bow – and what a debut it was! His Gold medal headlining acts included the 100m and 200m freestyle titles, the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle relays and the 4x100m medley relay.
While Darren admits that juggling work and studies is not easy, he appreciates the support he receives from his lecturers and attributes this to his ability to excel in both his studies and the sport that he loves.
Next up on Darren’s list is the 2020 Olympics, where he hopes to represent Singapore and do us proud!

With his natural athleticism and spot-on spikes, it’s no wonder Ajay Singh Shergill is a key volleyball player for Team Temasek.
TP has a proud volleyball legacy, especially in the POL-ITE Championships. During the team's 2019 campaign, Ajay’s all-round performance helped TP clinch our seventh consecutive Men's POL-ITE Championships trophy. The year before, in 2018, Ajay played his part in the team’s victorious quest to bring the IVP Volleyball Championships Gold back to TP after a five-year drought!
Despite his hectic TP training schedule, Ajay is doing very well academically. For him, time management is key. To catch up on schoolwork, he studies in the MRT on his way to training. He also spends Sundays, which are his off days, doing the same at the library.
Ajay is also a member of the Singapore Men’s Volleyball Team and is aiming to do his best for the nation at the 2019 SEA Games.

With opportunities come challenges and Rebecca Sim, our graduate from the Diploma in Logistics & Operations Management course, was willing to take on any. Her drive to learn and her dream to one day represent Temasek Polytechnic and Singapore was achieved when she put her skills to the test on the world stage. Rebecca did the nation proud when she emerged the Silver medallist in the Freight Forwarding Category at the 2019 WorldSkills Competition held in Kazan, Russia. With intelligence, quick thinking and a can-do attitude like hers, she’s now well on her way to building international connections and securing even more learning opportunities.
Rebecca got the best of both worlds in and outside the classroom. At TP, lessons and tutorials helped build her theoretical knowledge while her industry attachments and practical assignments gave her valuable hands-on experiences. As they say, the journey matters more than the destination. And Rebecca has gone really far!

Jun Hao had his first taste of business success at just 16 years of age, when he worked in his family’s import and export leather business, and revamped the traditional business model to incorporate e-commerce and social media marketing.
Encouraged by the positive outcome, he started three online stores with his friends, two in 2016 and Vectorworkz in 2017, which sells parts for Nerf guns that he designed and made using 3-D printing. More recently, he set up KYMFounders, which provides marketing services to brick-and-mortar stores.
The President of the TP Entrepreneurship Club and the joint-polytechnic Enspire Committee, Jun Hao received the prestigious National Youth Entrepreneurship (NYEA) Award, a national award that recognises students who have displayed entrepreneurial qualities and contributed to the start-up ecosystem.
