Course Overview

This subject covers the basic elements on the topic of IT security, reviews operational planning and practices, and provides a foundation for discussion and implementation of security strategies to minimize operational risks in an organization. Students will understand the theoretical, practical and ethical aspects of basic IT security.

 

 

Objectives

 

This subject aims to equip students with the knowledge of IT security and its ethical aspects and practical skills to secure data. It also aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to implement security strategies to minimize operational risks in an organisation.

Entry Requirements

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Modes of Assessment

1. Project

A project will be used to assess the concepts and skills that students have acquired during workshop sessions. Students are required to propose a feasible solution using common security methods on a real life scenario. The project will be divided into phases with some practical hours allocated for students to discuss and work on their proposal. The students are required to present and justify their proposal during a presentation.

 

2. Written Test

A written test will be used to assess the students understanding of the theoretical concepts covered.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Diploma in Infocomm and Digital Media (ICT Systems, Services & Support).
