Course Overview

This course provides students with knowledge of the fundamental principles of chemical engineering and how these principles can be applied to production systems in the chemical and chemical-related industry. Topics include Units and Dimensions, Physical Laws, Mass and Energy Balances.

 

 

Objectives

 

This subject aims to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills to:

  • apply selected physical and chemical concepts that are basic to chemical process operations.
  • solve basic mass and energy balances in chemical processes. 

Application/Entry Requirement

Applicants applying for modular units which are drawn from existing full diploma or post-diploma programmes will have the same minimum entry requirements as the full qualifications.

Modes of Assessment

 

  • Assignments – assess student’s understanding of key concepts covered in lectures, their ability to solve the application questions.

  • Tests / Quizzes – measure students’ understanding of key concepts and application of concepts learnt for each topic.

  • Class Participation – measure students’ attitudes and discipline towards learning in terms of completion of assignments and active participation in discussions.

 

 

Certification

 

Upon successful completion of the modular unit, students will be awarded a Statement of Result which can count towards the attainment of the Diploma in Applied Science (Chemical Technology).
